Why Isn’t Coinbase Supporting Ethereum Classic

in #ethereum8 years ago

All of the regulated exchanges do not support ETC, because it is not the legitimate/lawful chain. The issue is the lack or uncertainty of governance. If all of the exchanges support ETC, then there is the question about how to resolve the issue of the loss of some 1 billion Ether.

Some things to note:

  • Internet bullying tends to happen behind anonymity. (The bullies can't be sued/prosecuted.)
  • The bullies generally don't have any skin in the game. They just pick a contentious issue and run with the contrarian side.
  • The bullies form a mob following a particular cause or petition, disregarding the welfare of the disenfranchised.
  • The bullies have not provided a solution to resolve the loss issue. No one has come up with a way to reimburse the victims in the DAO attack. They are prepared to sweep the loss of 1 billion Ether under the carpet.
  • The majority vote in a recent Ethereum meet-up is to return lost funds to the victims in the DAO attack.
  • The reason that the ETC market will survive and thrive is Freedom of Choice. People are entitled to choose which altcoin or blockchain to use.

Coinbase let us at at least Withdraw our Ethereum Classic..

I suspect the problem with Coinbase allowing people to withdraw Ethereum Classic is that they've already been drained via "replay attacks". If so, in my opinion, the fault lies not with Coinbase, but with Ethereum devs who didn't bother to prevent replay attacks, despite knowing about them prior to the hardfork.
