Students at Berlin University Build Chess Game on Ethereum

in #ethereum8 years ago

"The team grew out of a group of students with programming skills and who chose the game chess due to its popularity in the computer science field. With a game that consists of 64 squares and two players controlling 16 pieces, the students had to apply “data structures for all of these, plus logic for making and verifying moves and end game conditions.” To demonstrate the attributes of an Ethereum distributed application, they also added methods for betting.

The students said they quickly ran into a major roadblock, discovering it was computationally impossible for the blockchain to end a match. In order to verify a checkmate, Grau wrote, all possible moves must be calculated and verified, which he and his peers found was not feasible on the blockchain."

This is how I use Facebook and Twitter, and I would like to spend my time using steem instead. I don't post the entire article and I always link to the source. This is what google news and the drudge report do...

I'm not trying to make hundreds of dollars from posting other people's content, I'm just doing what I like to do on social media which is share what I consider to be interesting news articles.

How about adding your thoughts and comments on the articles you share? Your contribution is what adds value to sharing and it will hopefully promote discussion and interaction with fellow steemians.

The reason copy/paste by itself is discouraged is that it adds no real value. It clutters the feeds and makes it harder to find posts of others that do wish to engage in discussion and sharing with the community.

That's a nice and innovative use of Ethereum.
Thing is, people like to play games, and lots of people like to play chess.
A few years ago I read a book called "The Victorian Internet." It was about the history of the telegraph. Apparently telegraph operators played chess over the telegraph with operators from other telegraph stations during the slower hours.
Any communications technology - at some point someone will find a way to use it to play games, and specifically chess.
