Will the DarkDAO be emptied on August 31st?

in #ethereum8 years ago (edited)

As far as we know, there are at least two attackers that might both have access to the childDAO "DarkDAO" keys (proven with a valid sig). The white hats could definitely continue with their withdrawal attempts, on the other side the attacker(s) can prevent this anytime using perpetual stalking attacks.

So unless a deal is reached with the stalker, the stolen 7.2 million ETC won't be rescued on the unforked chain. I doubt this will ever be the case and the attacker will have full access to the funds in several weeks. Especially, since the "Robin Hood" gang will probably stop their efforts now since the hardfork was achieved.

Summary:
It is just not worth wasting valuable developer hours blocking the attacker on the abandoned chain. It will take several weeks when the attacker will be able withdraw those ETC.

The first date an attacker controlled DAO can withdraw through a split proposal is currently August 31st.

What do you think? Will there be more drama, or will August 31st end the drama in one way or the other?

Meanwhile, Ethereum Classic is dangerously close to catching up to Steem in market cap. (coinmarketcap.com)

I don't think there is any real danger in that. Why do you think so?

They're nearly tied on coinmarketcap.com right now.
I did say it was catching up to Steem not catching up to the original Ethereum.
