Pomegranate (punica granatum) is a fruit plant that can grow up to 5-8 m. This plant is thought to have originated from Iran, but has long been bred in the Mediterranean region. The Moors named one of the ancient cities of Spain, Granada by the name of this fruit. This plant is also widely grown in areas of South China and Southeast Asia.
Pomegranate comes from the Middle East, spread over the subtropics to the tropics, from the lowlands to below 1,000 m asl. This plant likes loose soil that is not inundated with water, with ground water that is not deep. Pomegranates are often planted in gardens as ornamental plants, medicinal plants, or because of its edible fruit.
Shape of small trees or trees with a height of 2-5 m. Woody stems, twigs of branches, branching of many, weak, spiked on the armpit leaves, brown when young, and dirty green after old age. Single leaf, short-stemmed, located in groups. Leaves of leaf shape oval to lanceolate, pointed base, blunt tip, flat edge, pinnate inclination, glossy surface, length 1-9 cm, width 0.5-2.5 cm, green color.
The single flower is short-stemmed, out at the end of the twig or in the top of the leaf. Usually, there are one to five flowers, red, white, or purple. Flowering year-round. The fruit is buni, its shape is round with a diameter of 5-12 cm, its skin color is diverse, like green purple, white, reddish brown, or purple black. Sometimes, there are patches that are somewhat prominent in older color. The seeds are many, small, rounded shape that is slightly flat, hard, arranged irregularly, red, pink, or white.
