Darkness is suppressing the light;
the populace slowly losing heart—
is there no way to turn things right?

The world slowly losing the fight—
the truth is being torn apart—
darkness is suppressing the light.

Greed and hubris covering our sights
yet most of us refuses to act smart.
Is there no way to turn things right?

Why let our hearts be in a state of fright?
For the future we must all do our part.
Darkness is suppressing the light.

Why live in a heartless and cold night?
Give it color just like a treasured art—
we must find a way to turn things right.

Believe yourself, unleash that hidden might,
the world is in need of a fresh start—
Do not let darkness suppress the light;
let's work together to turn things right.

What is a Villanelle?

 

A villanelle (also known as villanesque) is a nineteen-line poetic form consisting of five tercets followed by a quatrain. There are two refrains and two repeating rhymes, with the first and third line of the first tercet repeated alternately until the last stanza, which includes both repeated lines. The villanelle is an example of a fixed verse form. The word derives from Latin, then Italian, and is related to the initial subject of the form being the pastoral.
