These are the reasons why I unfollowed some steemians today

in #esteem7 years ago

Today I just cleaned my steemit account by means of unfollowing a number of steemians whom I thought don't deserve my follow anymore. I was thinking of it for quite a while but scared of that 'Ginabot' notifications. Somehow, I gathered some braveness and clicked on the unfollow button altogether.

Being planktons, networking is an inevitable part in our way to success here. It is not a secret that small fishes need a good support of big wallets inorder to get some initial momentum. For that sake and conversing with them, most of us follow those big accounts even as their posts are nothing but real dumbs. But I admit that we dont really know whether these big players have achieved something great in past.

Leaving constructive comments on others posts is the best way to kick start your carrier on steemit. But one thing you have to be aware of is that, you should never comment for the sake of getting upvotes. Such comments can easily be spotted and eventually you will face something extremely opposite to your desire. I have never commented in others post for the sake of upvotes. whenever I read something, I form an opinion about it and will leave it as comment over there. it needn't necessarily be something flattering the author. At times I had strongly opposed the author and had proudly earned some big flags. I never give a fuck to them. If my account get tarnished to nothing, it doesnt imply the end of my real life! Even here on steemit, REPUTATION NUMBER DOESN'T MATTER AS LONG AS YOU CAN BUY IT FOR MONEY!

I unfollowed some people today. But I am damn sure that this act of mine haven't hurt anybody as none of them were following me back! In the end, it is not really a lose to them!

So Why did I unfollow the people

  • Some of them were inactive. I am not interested in following the accounts that are inactive for last 3 months. I don't know them personally either!
  • Some big accounts that I fiollow are not showing interest in conversing with me. They never reply to my comments. I take a lot of time to comprehend their posts and leave constructive comments in them by taking a lot of time again. I'm always left with disappointment for all these months. I think It would be better to mute them as they are interested only in making posts and getting assured upvotes.Nothing back to community.
  • Shit Posters- Some people were filling up my feed with some shit posts. Apparently, they were not putting any efforts. I won't sync with their mode of working. I curtail their friendship.
  • Not following me back- I dont think I'm a shit poster. I try my level best to put some efforts while creating contents. I expect followback from those people who are of my level or less than mine. Even after following them for a long period and engaging in their contents, some minnows and planktons never treat me as a human and never look at my contents. I thought of forming a friendship with you guys. You seem to disappointing me, hence I'm moving away in search of others. Good bye forever unless you treat me as a real human.
  • I want to keep my feed clean- I just dont like a ton of resteemed posts filling up my feed. I unfollowed those heavy resteemers

And still..

I still follow people who don't follow me back. Infact, major part of my following list has been constructued of such people. All of them are community minded and never hesitate to converse with me. I want that trait to be with the people who rule my feed.

Since I have unfollowed many, my following list has been shrunk and is manageable now. I'm going to find some new faces who are community minded and will be interested in being friends with me. Also I want to find people who produce extra-ordinary contents. As i said in many of my posts before, I refer steemit as a place to improve my knowledge and it is not just about financial gains. I won't expect followback from you if you are an Albert Einstein even though your reputation is just 0(zero). Let me find the YOU

I agree and have been thinking of unfollowing people for a while now; some of the people I follow don't have good posts; but it takes so long to go through them all. I saw one guy today who started same time as me and he had upvotes on all his posts from day one and from 3 months ago was making around 300 dollars a day and is on 71 to my 53 and he's hardly got a quarter the posts I have; something not right there. I was told quality posts would be the thing here, but not so sure it is anymore...

Oh man!! You are following more than 1500 people. Unimaginable number and i'm sure you can't manage them all. I just imagine how your feed looks like. New posts appear once in every 10 Seconds! It would be better to unfollow them all and start again by folowing some less than 200 steemians!

OK, I can try, thanks.

Continuously pruning your feed is key to maximizing value from time spent on Steemit and other social sites.

Yes, of course.

Who do you continue following you enjoy the most? Looking for recommendations.

There are many. You can check my following list. To name a few, You can follow @tarazkp, @acidyo, @kevinwong, @donkeypong, @krnel ...etc. I'm yet to find many good steemians. ( I'm really afraid of ginabot notifications!)

Thank you! I have followed your recommendations. I hope to be considered one of the "good steemians".

If you do not already, I recommend following @brandonfrye. His recent travel blogs are amazing.

Sure. Let me check his profile.

I agree and have been thinking of doing the same for a while now; some of the people I follow don't have good posts; but it takes so long to go through them all.
