The dangers of sleeping too long than usual

Once tired of activity, sleep becomes the key to restore the condition of the body. But besides lack of sleep, sleeping too long or too much is also a problem. Excessive sleepiness is a sign of some health problems. Sleeping too long can also increase the risk of many diseases and even death.

Every person's sleeping needs vary due to age and aging, sleep deprivation, sleep quality, to pregnancy. The average adult needs to sleep 7-9 hours per day. Moreover, it can be categorized as excess sleep.

Sleeping too long which is also known as hypersomnia may be caused by some ranging from thyroid problems, heart disease, apnea, depression, narcolepsy, and the influence of certain drugs. Sleeping too long also with some of the following diseases.

  • Diabetes

Research shows that sleeping too long or lack of sleep every day can increase the risk of diabetes.

  • Headache

Sleep longer can cause dizziness and headaches. Researchers believe this is due to the effects that occur on neurotransmitters in the brain including serotonin.

  • Obesity

Recent studies show people who sleep 9-10 hours or more per day, 21 percent more likely to be obese in six years than people who sleep 7-8 hours per day. The results of this study even remain the same if calculations are added with food and exercise.

  • Heart disease

Research from The Nurses' Health Study, as reported by Web MD, showed women who slept 9 to 11 hours per day, 28 percent more likely to be coronary than those who slept 8 hours per day.

  • Depression

A study found that about 15 percent of people who sleep longer have depression. Conversely, adequate sleep on a regular basis is powerful to cure depression.

  • Dead

The study also found people who slept 9 hours or more had a higher risk of death than those who slept 7-8 hours per day. There is no specific reason why this can happen. However, researchers believe this is related to depression and low socioeconomic status that leads to an increase in mortality.
