HHG11: "Forbidden day for sailing"
Indonesia is an archipelagic country, and Indonesia is also called a maritime axis. Aceh is located In the westernmost part of the country of Indonesia, part of the boundary of its territory is the ocean.
Therefore many acehness work as a farming but in the other side also many of acehness work as a fisherman
In this post I will discuss about customary sea "adat meulaot" for aceh people. In Aceh there is an institution that has the authority to organize fishing activities for fishermen, its name is customary institution of laot "Lembaga Adat Laot" led by a "Panglima Laot". There are various rules set by this institution, one of which is about a day that is forbidden to go to sea. In Aceh there are several days that prohibit fisherman from catching fish,
these days are:
➡Friday ➡Indonesian Independence Day (August 17th) ➡Aceh Tsunami Memorial Day (26 December) ➡Two days on Eid al-Fitri ➡Four days on Eid al-Adha ➡Three days at the time of *khanduri laot*
If any of the fishermen violate the regulation, the customary institution will take the fisherman's catch, and the fisherman will be given sanctions forbidden to go to sea for a minimum of three days and maximum of seven days.
Thank you for reading about the tradition of sailing in Aceh, hopefully you all like the story about aceh culture that I share on my blog.

It means the fishing is really serious work in Indonesia. Superb post @poocut. Waiting to know more about your culture and tradition. Stay blessed!

and the rule is for the common good.
Yeah, true @poocut... thanks a lot and stay blessed!
Hi @poocut, my late uncle was a fisherman and I used to stay with them everyday day after school as a kid, until my parents came home from work. So, personally I love fishing and the fishing communities. South Africa, has a big fishing community, both occupationally and for recreation.
Where I live in Cape Town is called the Cape Peninsula, so both sides are surrounded by ocean. My uncle often too us to the beach near where he worked so we would swim all day while he worked.
You have written a great post which brings back good childhood memories.
Hi @rlt47, it's good to know that you live nearby sea... nice and awesome. I always love sound of sea, and of course those romantic moments of sunsets and sunrise. Such a blessings to be able to live in that kind of environment. I have to travel to watch sea :D
oh rlt47
happy to read posts about your experience. You must have a beautiful childhood.
I always wanted to go and swim at sea, but my parents always forbid theybsay swimming at sea is very dangerous
Yes, it is better the fisherman obey all the laws of the country so that they do not get fines and penalties. I do not live new the sea; I live about 11 hours away from the ocean by car - 1100 km. When I visit my children then I love to walk on the beach.
