It's called sudo, not sodu. The name comes from the Linux command sudo(1) which means superuser-do.
That name is a derivative of an earlier Unix command su(1) which was technically set-user, but was more colloquially thought of as super-user (my manual on Mac says it is substitute-user but I'm not trusting that...).
