Eos - A brief summary of it's true value!!!
This is my first Steemit post so please go easy on me. I would also like to point out that I am not an economist and this post should not be construed as investment advice.
I've been following Eos for a while now and thought it would interesting to summarize the strengths of it especially when compared to Ethereum. That being said lets just jump right into it.
Imagine that there are flights leaving from two different airports. The airports are next to each other. One airport is very crowded as each aircraft is small, fitting only a small number of passengers so at peak times you end up waiting a very long time to board your flight and leave the terminal. The other airport doesn't have this issue. The aircraft flying from it are huge, able to accommodate many more passengers. The first airport is Ethereum where as the second is Eos.
The number of transactions which can be processed by Ethereum currently stands at between 7-30 per second. It will be scaleable but to what extent remains to be seen. It is also likely to take years before any drastic increase to transaction volume will be achieved. Eos on the other hand will be able to process between 25,000 and 50,000 transactions per second when it Launches in June. This will be scaleable to millions of transactions per second in the future. Facebook requires thousands of transactions per second. This sort of volume is simply not achievable on Ethereum and may never be.
Back to our airport analogy, the amazing thing about Eos international airport is that they don't charge for flights, that's right it's completely free! In Ethereum international however the terminal is clogged with people sometimes that some begin offering over and above their normal ticket price just to be able to depart the airport in a timely fashion.
If you are a user of facebook and suddenly you had to start paying every time you liked a post then you would soon stop using the service. This is another reason why, in it's current state, Ethereum is not a feasible breeding ground for high level, demanding applications.
There is another issue with Ethereum International i'm afraid. All the signage is written in ancient hieroglyphs which not many people can read. Eos International on the other hand appears have clear signs readable by all.
Ok so you know where i'm going with this one. All the passengers are decentralized app developers. If you want to build a decentralized application using Ethereum then you have to learn the solidity programming language. This is a major barrier to entry as the vast majority of programmers on this planet use something like Java script or C++. You will be able to use these programming languages on Eos and I can't emphasize how huge that is. Now talented developers will not have to waste time and can just get on with what they are good at, building apps.
As a part owner of Eos international can benefit from all these new startup airlines which will be flying from your airport. In exchange for hanger space at Eos international then you as the owner will be given ownership in some of these.
As Block one have teamed up with venture capital firms to find and fund promising decentralized app developers then there is a good chance that just by holding Eos tokens you will get airdropped tokens in some very promising apps for free, the case in point being the upcoming Everipedia airdrop. Kyle (the awakenment) illustrates perfectly just how powerful these airdrops can be.
With Ethereum you do not gain this benefit.
In addition to the ownership of free tokens just from holding Eos, as the network reaches capacity and the price increases then Dapp developers will need to either spend lots of money on EOS tokens (in order to have sufficient bandwidth to run their application) or they will need to rent them. Long term renting out your tokens to Dapp developers may prove highly lucrative.
The technology behind EOS is proven and in use with bitshares and Steem. The only downside is that EOS international airport is still being built so you will have to wait until June to fly, although tickets are on sale now and pets are allowed so feel free to bring your cryptokitties.
I hope you enjoyed my article please upvote it and comment. It is the first one I have ever written but hopefully not the last. Let me know what you think below and if you want me to do more I will do one on Eos governance.
Hiya Ben, great article and yes please do write one on EOS governance, of particular interest on that topic is how the EOS governance system could be used to replace government. Now wouldn't that be awesome!
