Roll up your sleeves, we have work to do - Our pre-launch take on EOS block production.

With the upcoming launch of the EOS mainnet, we are continuously increasing our knowledge of the technical issues related to this - protection against attacks, snapshot validation, hardware configuration etc. In our opinion, this is the last and the best time to get back to the foundations. Nearing towards the EOS mainnet launch we want to present to you our views on what the work of the block producer is, at least according to us. We realize that every candidate can approach these issues in a different way - and there is nothing wrong with that - as long as they stay open-minded. Thanks to this, we can develop and motivate each other on a daily basis.

BUILD THE CHAIN, NOT THE APPS

Controversial? Maybe. But EOS can change the apps world as Bitcoin is changing the payment world. Moreover, we belive that EOS will be able to deliver the final product and create an environment in which adoption will develop at a rapid pace. Having that in mind, the priority for block producers is not the active involvement in the creation of applications but the cooperation with other BPs to create a secure and sustainable mainnet, specially on the initial stages.

Under the guise of excitement and new opportunities, a tedious and truly geeky work is awaiting for us.

We are more than sure that a huge number of talented developers with genius ideas, ready to be implemented, are waiting for this project all over the world. Many entities from more traditional markets are open to migration from a centralized model to a decentralized one. However, they need a suitable platform, an environment that will not discourage them from implementing these plans. In order for the ecosystem to be friendly to them, it is necessary for the EOS base (the blockchain itself), to be efficient, stable and reliable. It must meet the expectations of its users on the actual application level, not just the promise to provide the right technology in the future. This is crucial task for every BP.

If we don't deliver a platform, and eventually developers will redirect their attention to other blockchain projects, we will be only ones to blame.

With the entire hype accompanying EOS in recent months, as block producers, we must remain humble and committed to working on the delivery of reliable chain. This is the attitude with which we joined the election process, and we hope to deliver on this promise.

LEGAL AWARENESS

One of the things that is still given too little attention is the awareness of potential risks that block producers may face in the future. By that, we mean the legal issues that under no circumstances can be underestimated. It is important to learn from the examples of already functioning blockchains, like Ethereum, on which the resulting ICOs have caused several legal problems. And these were not problems of the ICOs alone, but Ethereum itself.

EOS and its BPs may be placed in a similar situation in the future - therefore it is necessary to have an awareness of the legal jurisdiction in which they are operating, and have adequate experience in dealing with such situations, so that could not harm EOS network and reputation in any way.

We can not rule out that projects built on EOS by their nature may - to put it mildly - not be liked by regulatory institutions

Therefore BPs will have to be strong and resilient to withstand any legal issues that can appear in their way.

No one can predict what problems we will face at this point, but we must remain vigilant and ready for any eventuality. We believe that the results of the election will allow BPs to be deployed all over the world, so that they will operate in different jurisdictions. And it doesn’t matter that a given jurisdiction can be 100% friendly at the moment - with such a dynamic development of crypto-space, everything is possible at this time, regardless of the current legal status. We swim in unknown waters in search of a better world - which is both a blessing and a curse. We can only predict that there will be many great projects build using this technology that will bring a lot of opportunities but also threats.

Thanks to many years of our experience in heavily regulated financial markets and experience in the legal arena, we know that we will be able to cope with upcoming challenges.

EDUCATION

The role of a BP is to educate people and bring awareness on the possibilities that the EOS project can bring. BPs should focus on providing trainings, conferences, and meetups so that developers can learn how to build apps using EOS technology.
BPs should also contribute in funding talented developers and their projects rather than doing it themselves so that they can commit and be fully focused on scaling up the mainnet and providing support to as many decentralized applications as possible.

GOVERNANCE AND ‘ORACLE’ ROLE

Another important aspect worth mentioning here is the governance of EOS chain. Each BP will have to work out his own procedures that will facilitate everyday work. Although we disagree with many outside voices accusing EOS for not being decentralized enough, it is clear that with some delegated power temptation may appear. Therefore, block producers should be - as far as possible - independent and financially stable. The financial factor can not be the driving force of actions.

Block producer should serve as oracle for the community gathered around EOS. It is to be a source of trust, guarding the fundamental values and principles of the constitution.

It may sound like a cliché, but nothing is more important in governance than fully independent, impartial and transparent actions. BPs being scattered all over the world must present a unity. Differences in characteristics, views or approaches, determine the strength of our community, but we will show real strength by uniting ourselves in the face of problems.

The first test is just around the corner...
