Introducing Cypherglass LENS a new EOS Voting Tool
Over the past month, Cypherglass has received hundreds of requests from the EOS community for an easy-to-use and safe voting tool. Because of these requests, we are proud to introduce Cypherglass LENS, a voting tool for the EOS Community.
In a continuing effort to give back to the EOS community, Cypherglass released our Block Producer dashboard/alerting tool, Windshield, a month ago. We decided to bring the same high level of EOS development expertise to the rest of the EOS community.
Our voting tool has three primary goals in mind:
- Whether encrypted or unencrypted, a private key should never be saved to disk or sent over the internet: We achieve this by restricting the user’s private key only to volatile memory which is erased and overwritten.
- The ability to disconnect from the internet to avoid theft of a private key: The software You guallows the user to operate offline and enter a private key, and only goes online once the user’s private key has been erased from memory. Lens makes hardware calls to the computer, and shows the user clearly when their machine is online or offline.
- An easy and intuitive user experience: The complaint we heard from users, is that existing tools are written for programmers and difficult to use. Lens has a very simple interface that guides the user through three easy steps to vote.
Lens has two modes of functionality, browser-based and standalone. With the browser based version the user can simply click through the three easy steps from lens.cypherglass.com. For a more isolated experience, users can download PC and Mac versions to use them offline.
It is important for voters to know LENS was paid for and built by Cypherglass, an EOS Block Producer. You, the EOS community should know this because you are entrusting your vote with your chosen Block Producers, who in addition to their primary responsibility of block production, also have the responsibility of transparency. As we said in our original Steemit post, Block Producers who build Voting Portals should clearly label them as such.
We are confident Cypherglass LENS will reduce the technical difficulty the community has expressed when using other tools, and will also provide a safer, more secure way to vote. We look forward to continuing to bring the EOS community more tools and resources.
