Today, another edition of the World Economic Forum begins
Today, another edition of the World Economic Forum begins, which will traditionally take place in the mountain town of Davos, in the Swiss Alps. This event cuts the agenda of thousands of journalists around the world, who give priority to covering the conference.
This is because the “Davos Forum” brings together the largest companies and the most important politicians in the world to discuss the most urgent agendas on trade, health, environment, economics and politics.
Known as the Davos Forum, the annual conference is held by a non-profit organization. The World Economic Forum organization was founded by Klaus Martin Schwab, a professor of administration in Switzerland. Among the organization of events, the Forum also prepares research reports and seeks greater engagement among its members.
The event takes place annually, always at the end of January. The event serves as a meeting point for world leaders to strengthen ties, create bridges for new businesses, make new contacts and discuss the main trends for the next decade.
The first edition took place in 1971 and, since then, the event has been gaining more importance over almost 50 years of existence. After all, it is there that the new directions set for the world economy and politics will be decided.
What will be discussed at the World Economic Forum in 2020
In 2020, the event will take place between January 21 and January 25 and the discussions will be guided by seven themes, which can be followed live on the World Economic Forum website:
How to save the planet. The panel will talk about climate and sustainability concerns.
Society and the future of work. The “Fourth Industrial Revolution” will be one of the most discussed topics in this panel, mainly with the advances of the Internet.
Technology for good. Can advances in new technologies threaten the economy by eliminating jobs, or promoting growth?
Fairer economies. How to reshape economies so that growth benefits many, not just the few, and thus ensures that the extraordinary human development mechanism we build is sustainable?
Best deals. This panel discusses new businesses and how to create sustainable models.
Healthy future. Depression, anxiety, cancer and diabetes are still the biggest problems in the world. How to identify and solve the main health challenges, ensuring fair access for all?
World geopolitics. How to move from geopolitics and international competition to a pattern of consummate global collaboration. Nations will have to change.
Despite the diversity of themes, the perspective is that the guidelines on sustainability and the environment will dominate the discussions due to the recent fires in Australia and the Amazon. The concern about the climatic situation in the world is urgent. Over the past 50 years, the Earth's average temperature has increased by 1.5ºC.
Under the spotlight in the face of the burning crisis in the Amazon, Brazil should be questioned and pressured to seek policies to combat deforestation. The United States will also be under pressure regarding its decision to leave the Paris Agreement.
Last year, Geopolitics had a greater focus, mainly due to the humanitarian and economic crisis in Venezuela, in addition to the trade war between the United States and China.
