Hi, Steemers.

In this opportunity I’m going to talk about the feminine beauty ideals and how it can affect the self-esteem of some women.

First, I chose this topic because I think that this is interesting for the society and is in the mouth of everyone now a day. When we’re walking down the street we could visualize a lot of publicity showing beautiful women that transmit a powerful image to the person that is watching. These women are always beauty, with a little bit of picardy, that’s an ideal of pretty woman.

What is the feminine beauty ideal?

Is the socially constructed notion that that the physical attractiveness of a women is something that they have to care, like to have a soft skin and to have always painted nails.

These ideals can vary from culture to culture; the ideal of a pretty woman in Asia is totally different to the ideal in Latin America

For example, in Asia, a good woman is describe as being white, with a skinny body, straight black hair and chinese eyes. Here, a beautiful woman has a tanned skin and curvilinear and voluptuous body.

In Fairy Tales.

When we are talking about these ideals, we have to go to the basics, fairy tales and cartoons.

When we’re talking about fairy tales the first thing that comes onto our minds is “Grimm Brothers” Because they’re responsible of all the beautiful princess of Disney.

In particular I love this one, she’s Snow White, and since I was a child I think that she’s one of the most beautiful and powerful princess of all, she’s a lady without losing her courage.

Fuente

She’s describe as being white as snow, red as blood and black as ebony wood, this is describing beauty as being a white girl, with rosy cheeks and black hair. On the other hand we have The Evil Queen.

Fuente

She’s ugly, no?

She’s designed to leave a horrible taste in your mouth when you pronounce her name.

This is telling us that beauty is related with goodness and the ugliness is related with the evil side.

In Mass Media.

The mass media actually is one of the most important tools that we have, and it could be our friend if we learn how to manage it correctly.

Girls, now a days lose hours and hours watching make-up videos and reading magazines, trying to understand this ideals and they only spend 10 minutes to keep a relationship with their relatives, this is giving much importance to this topic

Fuente

In most of the articles that girls read, they talk about women with an ultra-thin body, like the ones you watch in cartoons.

The interesting thing about it is that most of these ideals are false; they’re manipulated by photoshop and surgery. The girls start diets, they try to change their body and spend a lot of money on cosmetics just to look pretty.

Fuente

Many of they do it, but the other ones begin to present eating disorders, low self-esteem an anxiety.

Fuente

One of the artist that inspire me to do this presentation is Alessia Cara, she’s a precursor of the idea that women have to feel comfortable on their own body, on their own skin, and that they’re more than just a beautiful face.

Fuente

I think that a solution to this problem will be that Mass Media show us women that we could see every day in the streets, powerful and workers that start their days earlier in the morning and finish it late at night.

Women need to understand that they are beautiful in many ways, without talk about a pretty outfit or a good makeup, they need to understand that they're valuable without that. All of us need to realize that we don't have to change because an article, the TV or a person said that we're not wonderful.

I hope you enjoy this post, you know I love share new information and ideals with you. If you want to read all the information I put the article in the end so you can read it.
