Pride with ancestors
Well, without the need for more words, let's go directly to what is vernacular architecture.
Prologue
Vernacular architecture or local architecture derived from the word vernacullus is an architectural style that is formed from a long process and repeatedly follow the user behavior, this style has a blessing with local wisdom that has a continuous form and explain the cultural parameters of a nation is also very closely related to Social systems, family to religious rituals.
There are some opinions from experts in terms of vernacular architecture such as :
"Vernacular architecture is a growing and emerging architecture of folk architecture born from ethnic societies and anchored in ethnic traditions, and built by experimental (trial and error), using local techniques and materials and is the answer to the setting of the environment in which the building is located And always open for transformation. "
"As a cultural product, architecture is influenced by environmental factors: geographical, geological, climate, temperature; Technological factors: resource management, building technical skills; Cultural factors: philosophy, perception, religion, social and family structure, and economy. "
Based on the tradition of how to build it, vernacular is divided into buildings into grand-tradition and folk-tradition. In the classification of folk-tradition he places two groups: primitive architectural groups and vernacular architecture. Rapoport then further identifies that existing types of vernacular architecture can be separated as vernacular-traditional and vernacular-modern. The occurrence of vernacular forms or models is caused by six factors known as modifying factors
Material Factor
- Construction Method
- Technological Factors
- Climate Factor.
- Land Selection
- Socio-cultural factors
According to Amos Rapoport in the book House Form and Culture
Vernacular architecture itself is based on the experience (try and Error) of the artisans so as to produce a work that is guaranteed and tested katahanannya against social or climatic impacts, mini architectural style itself has its own meaning for its users, sometimes in certain indigenous people the use of vernacular architectural style into a A pride to the ancestors who have inherited a masterpiece that has been tested, like a wooden house in Japan that serves as an anti-earthquake building at this time.
The challenge of vernacular architecture today
My brother, we realize that in this increasingly sophisticated era our belief in something that smells traditional may be a bit faded since so many fabrication materials are so easy to find, so if I am now whether my friends are all planning on making wooden houses, I Believe not a few friends who will answer I want, but when I start talking about the cost and comparison with the home of pabkrikasi materials then I am sure my friends will undo the intention to make a house of wood because the cost is relatively more expensive and considering the cost of care tall one.
My brother, this is the challenge that vernacular architecture must face today, that is, to compete unfairly with manufacturing materials where each of these materials is marketed freely and further undermines the user's trust in vernacular architecture and ultimately makes vernacular architecture scarce, but Look at when we start to forget and leave the local wishdom, we ourselves will lose money. How not, I will point it out, if you live in earthquake-prone areas and you are forced to build a house of concrete and floor many regardless of the condition of the area then what happens? Of course the building will be more quickly destroyed than the building that prioritizes the principle of local wishdom.
What we have to do now
Brother, let us again believe in the glory of the ancestors by acknowledging our weaknesses. How can something that has been tested for thousands of years will be replaced by something new born, we are still guessing what will happen, but the ancestors have proved it.

Good idea about vernacular architecture because we need a lot of choice in our village and it will make some buildings have character according to its own function and shape.
Yes, I am very happy with our awareness of the policy of nature, nature has taught us how to appreciate. Thank you for stopping by my blog.
We have a lot of that vernacular architecture in my country. We refer to it as Mud House. Name pretty much explains what it is, a house built with mud, palm rafters and wood. Pretty cool during the dry season. But not so good during the rains. Though most of it are going extinct as more and more people back in the villages are building with stone and concrete.
Yes, i think no body's perfect in this world my friend. But the scientist's always make it better for next time. Use vernacular it's not only use same material. Thank for your visiting to my blog. See you around.
