This Is How We Move 340 Ton Rocks - How Did The Egyptians?

in #engineering7 years ago

A feat of modern engineering and art, or laughable to the ancients? Los Angeles County Museum of Art decided to pay homage to past civilizations by marking their site with a large stone boulder. Marking the museums significance in the city of LA. The project cost just under $10 million dollars, from quarry to museum over 100km away.

This is what it takes to move one rock, you will be shocked when I tell you.

Lets start with the vehicle.

it's 89.6 meters (294 ft) long & 8 meters wide. (Almost three lanes wide)

196 wheels

requires 12 crew to operate

Top Speed of 10 MPH

Crazy right?

Now The Journey

The logistics alone took five years to work out. With planning where to stop each day, getting permits, getting new permits when roadworks are scheduled. Teams of workers were deployed to lift telephone and power lines, swing traffic lights to the side.

The journey itself took almost 10 days, rather than the normal 90 minutes to complete. The shortest route was 100km, due to logistics the route taken was nearly 140km.

The Rock Itself

It's 340-ton and made of granite and is 6.4m tall.

So ask yourself this. With our modern technology it took us ten days to move this rock 100km. Think about this, the Colossi of Memnon statues in Egypt weigh approx 720-ton each and are made of made one one piece of stone each. They were transported 675km overland!

Could they really have done this with copper tools like is proposed by mainstream scholars, or did they receive this knowledge from an older and more advanced civilization than ours?
