Germany: The Rhein-Hunsrück district enchants the energy world
The structurally weak Rhine-Hunsrück district, in particular, is regarded internationally as a model for renewable energies (Energiewende). From Japan to Africa, experts come and be inspired.
Today, the district produces three times as much renewable electricity as it can consume itself. Twenty years ago, this looked quite different - not a single kilowatt hour was produced locally. Development is also progressing steadily in the heat sector. With savings, the construction of local heating networks and photovoltaic systems. The success of the Rhine-Hunsrück district makes more and more people curious. Not least by winning the European Solar Prize in 2011, how does that work? Does this pay off - even if there is no government support for renewable energies? So far, delegations from 34 nations have visited the circle to hear about the energy revolution.
