레프리컨이라는 요정에 대해 들어 보셨나요?

아일랜드 전설에 등장하는 요정들읊 위해 구두 만드는

직업을 가진 작은 요정이에요.

이 요정들은 항상 구식 초록색 옷을 입고 모자와 큰 고리가

있는 신발을 신고 다녀요. 특히 금을 많이 가지고 있어서

어떤 사람이 레프리컨을 잡게 되면 그 사람에게 금이 숨겨진

곳을 알려 줘야 한다네요. 하지만 아일랜드 이야기에서

이들은 심술 굳고 장난이 심하다고 묘사되어 있어요.

한 남자가 레프리컨읊 숲에서 붙잡아 한 나무 아래에

황금단지가 있다는 것을 알게 되는데요.

그 남자가 삽을 가지러 가기 위해 금이 있는 묻혀 있는

나무에 빨간 손수건으로 묶어 표시를 해 놓죠.

하지만 이 레프리컨은 장난기가 발동해서 모든 나무에

빨간 손수건을 매덜아 그 남자는 결국 금을 못 찾았다는

이야기가 있다네요.

때로는 레프리컨들이 사람들에게 도움을 요청하기도 하는데

도움 받은 사람은 행운을 가져다 주는 선물을 받아요.

이들은 술을 잘 마시고 다니는데 밤 늦게 취해서는

개나 양을 말인양 타고 다나는 아주 어리석은 모습을

보이기도 한답니다.

Leprechauns are wee folk in Irish legends.

These little men always wear old-fashioned green

clothes. They also wear a hat shoes with big buckles.

They have a lot of gold. When people catch

lephrechauns, leprechauns must show the people

where the gold is hidden.

However, it may be uneasy for them to find the

gold because leprechauns can be grumpy and

very tricky in many stories in Ireland.

In one story, a man caught a leprechaun. The

leprechaun showed the man his pot of gold. The gold

was buried under a tree in the forest. The man tied a

red handkerchief around the tree to go for a shovel.

When the man returned, he found red handkerchiefs

tied to every tree in the forest! The leprechaun was

gone, and the man never found the pot of gold.

Sometimes leprechauns ask people for help. If a

person gives a leprechaun something the leprechaun

needs, the person will receive a gift from the

leprechaun, which will bring good luck to the person.

Stories also tell how leprechauns like to drink alcohol.

When these leprechauns are very drunk late at

night, they act very silly: riding on the back of a dog or

sheep as if it were a horse.
