Pride is an inwardly directed emotion that carries two antithetical meanings. With a negative connotation; pride is refers to a foolishly and irrationally corrupt sense of one's personal value, status or accomplishments. With a positive connotation, pride refers to a humble and content sense of attachment toward one's own or another's choices and actions, or toward a whole group of people, and is a product of praise, independent self-reflection, and a fulfilled feeling of belonging.

Pride is concerned about who's right, while Humility is concerned about what's right.

Everyone experience adversity; some people are made humble while others are made hard. All this set of people carry that spirit along to everywhere they go. For those who allow themselves to become hard, that's tragic because its very difficult for a hard person to learn anything.

Pride causes people to justify themselves, even when they know they're wrong.

WHAT DOES BIBLE SAYS ABOUT PRIDE.

I believe, from what We’ve read in the Bible, that pride is at the root of all sin. God hates pride because we really have a misplaced sense of worth. God says that “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God” (Psalm 10:4) and that “I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech” (Prov 8:13). Pride is the opposite of humility and this is what we read in Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom” which is why “patience is better than pride” (Eccl 7:8). God thunders out of heaven saying to all who are prideful “The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day” (Isaiah 2:11). We will either humble ourselves or God will do it for us and one is much more painful than the other which is why Isaiah writes “I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless” (13:11). Even nations that are overly prideful God says that “the most wicked of nations…I will put an end to the pride of the mighty, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated” (Ezk 7:24).

NEGATIVE IMPACT PRIDE CAN HAVE ON A PERSON

  • Prideful people blame others instead of taking responsibility. Whenever things are not working out of them, they blame someone else.

  • Prideful people are rigid instead of being flexible.

  • The prideful leader of a business will choose to ignore what is obvious to everyone else; instead of being objective and realistic, they don't face reality but denial.

  • Prideful people are isolated, Instead of being connected, prideful people find themselves out of touch with themselves, their families, their community, their clients and customers.

  • Prideful people are closed minded, they are defensive and opposed to new ideas.

  • Prideful people inflate themselves and deflate others because they are insecure. They take credit for success and give others the blame.

You may already be a humble person who possesses the spirit of learning. If so, that's is fantastic, but if you don't, there is still room for you to change, "Remember it's the finish, not the start, that counts the most in life.
