What Is 3d Puff Embroidery And How To Do It?
3d puff embroidery consists of having a piece of art or lettering puff designs on the fabric. This type of embroidery is mostly used in baseball hats, sports caps, and for custom designed hats. 3d puff gives height and depth to the design embroidery by rising the logo or letters. It creates incredible sewing results. A design must be digitized especially for 3d puff embroidery. 3d puff embroidery requires additional steps over simple embroidery. First of all, we need to be very careful about sewing 3d embroidery designs.
A special sew file and a 3d foam is needed. The 3d foam comes in different thickness but 3mm is ideal thickness for 3d puffing. Thick foam makes it possible for the designed embroidery to stay up for a long time on the fabric. It is very important to know that color changing can be very tricky when working with 3d puff embroidery. After you complete the first color, stop the embroidery machine. Then cut a piece of foam to cover the rest of the design. Then you can repeat the whole process for each different color. The foam color should be matching with the color you are using for stitching the thread. Mostly foam is available in basic colors, so it is impossible to match the foam color with the thread color. People use only two colors for most of the time, black colored foam with all the dark threads and white foam with all the light color threads. You need to use the best-matched foam colors with the threads. After you have completed your job with an embroidery machine, you can remove the excess foam from the machine. If there is any foam left on the embroidery, it is very important to remove it even small pieces of foam. You can use sharp tweezers to clean off the small pieces of foam from the embroidery. Use a heat source such as lighter to heat the embroidery. A lighter can help you to shrink the small pieces of foam by hiding them under the embroidery. 3d puff is used to add dimension and flare to any design with large elements to support the foam. You need to follow some basic rules for 3d puff embroidery. If you want to puff a design portion that section must be the last sewing of the fabric. You need to lay down the 3d foam, to make it possible to sew the flat sections first. The needle penetrates the foam and pulled away all the excessive foam to complete the sewing. The section which is to be lifted up using 3d puff embroidery must be flexible enough to allow the foam to show its magic. Satin stitches can help you to raise the embroidery design better. The best width of satin stitch is between 3mm and 11mm. You can use alphabets texts as a starting point to puff the design, but they must be able to modify the foam because of their open ends.
