6 Tips to Help You Get Email Marketing Right
Email has been at the center of my marketing efforts for years.
This article won't go into the reasons why this is such a powerful way to grow your business. Instead, I'm going to give you 6 tips to help you get this right.
Get Started ASAP
Don't put this off. So many people say that they wish they had started earlier.
I use this software (aff link). It's sophisticated but simple to use. Go with the lite plan once your free trial is over. It's just $9 per month for 500 subscribers.
Once you have done that, read on...
Start with Your End Goal in Mind
For me, it's to get more people joining my English fluency course and teaching program.
When someone subscribes, they receive a series of emails that go out automatically. These emails give value, introduce who I am, and includes an offer. The offer ends after 12 days.
For you, it might be to grow a following of people whom you can help.
You might not have a product or service ready right now. No worries. Growing a following will help you learn more about what people want and will build up goodwill once you're ready to launch. Again, don't put this off.
Give Something Away for Free
Don't just tell people to subscribe to your email list.
Give them a reason to.
For example, if you're a language teacher and you want to teach online, you'll find this beneficial. It's a video course (free) that gives an overview of how you can start your own teaching business.
This is more enticing than just saying "Subscribe for email updates," right?
You don't have to create a video course. You can offer a one-page PDF using Google Docs. It doesn't have to be long to be valuable.
CTAs Everywhere
If you create videos on YouTube, include a CTA at the beginning and/or end of your videos.
Tell people to download your free PDF.
If you write blog posts, include CTAs in your articles.
If you make short Instagram videos, include CTAs.
What you're doing is putting email marketing at the center of everything you do.
Write and Send Emails (This Might Be Scary at First)
I remember writing my first email to 17 subscribers. It was scary!
Now, I send emails to tens of thousands of people and it feels normal.
Don't put this off. Don't be scared of sending people an email. Be yourself, get more confident, and help people.
Know that People Will Unsubscribe and that This Is a Good Thing
When I send an email, about 50 people unsubscribe from my list.
Great!
I used to worry about people unsubscribing. Now, I like it. If someone unsubscribes, it means that they were never meant to be on my list anyway. Or maybe, the timing wasn't right.
Don't just focus on numbers. Focus on getting more of the right people on your list.
Be clear with who you are, who you help, and how you help. This is a like a filter to ensure that those who can benefit from what you offer will follow you.
