RE: Manned Multicopters: The Exciting Dawn of Personal Electric Aviation
I'd so fucking love to drive something like that in the future... but I fear that not the technology might be the problem but the legal regulations.
While a lot of "Sci-Fi-Stuff" like this is probably possible imho it's very probable that most countries won't progress that fast and just focus on the possible downsites.
On the other hand flying cars might actually be a real danger if there's no kind of security mechanism that can't be shut off by the driver and ensures a safe landing and prohibits willfull accidents.
But in the end I'd really just like to drive this now... please?
That stuff has actually been thought of and legal parameters as well as elaborate safety mechanisms have been under development for decades, such as NASA's "highways in the sky" system and whole-aircraft explosively deployed safety chutes. This has been a long time coming but I feel confident that all the pieces are now in place.
I hope they are... it's just that I personally don't see it coming in the near future at least in Germany.
Sadly there are a lot of people here who are kind of anxious when it comes to new tech.
Most people I know of don't even own a credit card and I've never seen anybody but me pay with either the NFC chip in their card or their smartphone. Yes this is a completely different topic but imho it shows that even quite harmless techs like those are viewed very sceptically.
But at least we got the Autobahn. :D
I guess I'll just have to go on vacation somewhere else to fly those things until we catch up with international regulations.
