Wisdom and common sense: Stand in the assembly of the elders. Who is wise? Cleave to him. Ben Sira 6:34

The Bible is not an easy book to understand and comprehend in its true depth and this has a spiritual explanation; for some people spirituality makes no sense and is madness, but for others it does, and there is a reason for this. The Bible teaches that the law of Moses is not enough to do good and please God; something more is needed and that something more are the spiritual gifts of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion) and wisdom, because these spiritual gifts perfection the law in the heart and make the law bear fruits of blessing.
And an example of this was Solomon, who, once crowned king, asked God in Gibeon for the gifts of wisdom, discernment, and understanding to govern the entire nation of Israel. This is why the sapiential books call upon men to seek wisdom as one seeks a hidden treasure and a pearl of great price, because wisdom does not allow herself to be easily captured, and before revealing itself in all her clarity and power she tests men. Wisdom, both as a science and as a spiritual gift, is deeply linked to common sense, longevity, contemplative life, and true happiness.
This is why the Bible, and in particular de book of the master of wisdom Ben Sira, teaches men how they should approach wisdom metaphorically:
"Come to her like one who ploughs and sows,
and wait for her good harvest" Ben Sira 6:19.
And not only that, the master Ben Sira also taught where wisdom is most abundant:
"Stand in the assembly of the elders.
Who is wise? Cleave to him" Ben Sira 6:34.
It is very likely that this advice from Ben Sira arose as a thought of a historical fact, when King Solomon died and his son Rehoboam was to be crowned king of Israel, Rehoboam was advised to follow the advice of the oldest and wisest men in Israel, but Rehoboam rejected this and only followed his own passions, as a result, Israel was divided in two. Rehoboam rejected the wisdom of God and only brought misfortune to Israel and Judah. The Bible invites men to meditate on this and to seek the most excellent and the best.
