Edward Snowden used Bitcoin to pay for servers revealing NSA secrets

Snowden worked for the CIA as a contract in 2013 when the leaked documents revealed that telecommunications and government companies participated in the mass-tracking programs of millions of Americans.

Sharing through a video link from Russia, he said the ability to conduct transactions without being monitored and recorded is "basic human rights among rights" - and Bitcoin helped achieve privacy in this digital age.

He also warned about the harms that smartphones and social networks will be able to impact on people's personal privacy in the future:

“In the past, the government could keep track of you, but now it is easier to get used to the equipment that we own to own. And the more we do, the more privacy will be lost and freedom is no longer a fundamental human right of all things. ”
Snowden, agreed by the Russian government to allow political asylum for three years, underscoring the principle behind privacy is nothing to hide.

Also in this appearance, Edward Snowden denied criticisms that Bitcoin was being used by criminals, saying: "There are many criminals out there who use dollars rather than Bitcoin."

Last year, Snowden voiced concern about Bitcoin - affirming that the blockchain of electronic money is often "violently attacked" and easily exploited.
