FAMILY FUN AT THE FRED BERRY CONSERVATION EDUCATION CENTER

in #education6 years ago

This was a great, educational day!

Last week we had a nice opportunity for "conservation day." We attended an event for children out at the Fred Berry Conservation Education Center on Crooked Creek, and had a wonderful time!

FUN & EDUCATIONAL!

We had been hearing about the Fred Berry Conservation Education Center for a while now, and last week we finally took the drove over to find it. When I was growing up I always liked visiting places like this, and we really enjoyed the together.

The @little-peppers got an opportunity to learn more about the different varieties of milkweed and their crucial role in the ecosystem, especially the Monarch butterfly. They also each received a seed to plant so that they can start growing their own on our homestead. We also talked about pollinators in general, and the possible reasons for their recent decline.

This part of the day was rather strange for us. It was a presentation on some of the different species of frogs in the area. @Mama-pepper laughed a little and joked, "Why are we here? This is pretty much our life!" It was still fun to see, but she did have a good point. Those @little-peppers pretty much already knew everything that was shared, but it is still good to get a refresher.

This was one of the favorite parts of the day for us. It also made us long to have our own pond, but I think that'll be coming soon enough.

This is a stocked pond where they allow catch and release fishing. Besides the large turtle cruising around, there were at least catfish, bluegill, and crappie in the pond. Some of them were quite large too!

Unfortunately for the @little-peppers, we were not able to catch any fish. I think that part of it was the fact that we were fishing late in the afternoon, after the pond had already been fished all day. The hot dogs that they gave us for bait may have been another factor, since they were in large pieces and did not want to stay on the hook. Apparently this pond may be "open to the public" (at least for children anyway) to a certain degree, so maybe we will have to stop back some other time when it hasn't been fished all day and let the @little-peppers enjoy some fishing. We could even bring our own "not hot dogs" bait to try!

Before we left, Monster Truck and I even had the pleasure of meeting a garbage can named "Tyler." This was a new experience for us, and a little strange, but we still took a photo to prove that it happened. It was a good end to the day!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Wow thats so interesting and a great experience for the children. They will learn how to interact with nature amd somehow will learn survival ideas. 😊

Albert Einstein once said if the bee 🐝 Population was to die out the human race would die out within about 6 to 7 years , so yes Pollinators are massively important things to learn about. Cheers mike

Oh yeah! Thankfully we already have a lot of flowers growing, and there are more to come!

As always my best example to follow is you, when I have my children they will be the same as yours I will teach you that the fear of nature is just a myth that everything depends on the upbringing if you raise your children without fear they will not have fears and I see that you raise your children prepared for whatever it is. It is a good father. I congratulate you, certainly fun day in family is beautiful to spend days like that. When I learned to fish I only started with a can of beer with nylon, lead and hook. fish some fish that in my country we call parguito or snapper. As always your Venezuelan friend here

My wife used to fish like that when she was little! Very cool! Be blessed my friend!

your family fun is really fentastic and grat picture

a very great post @ papa-pepper, I really like your post on this one friend.

Seems you guys really had fun @papa-pepper

It's the little things, like sentient trashcans, that make these days special! Fun is all about perspective.

Definitely give 'not hotdog bait' a try. I have tried a lot of baits in my life and I have had, admittedly anecdotally, much more success with the not-hotdog line of baits.

LOL! - You're hilarious!

You have quite the sense of humor yourself!

this is very fun my pal, they enjoy it very much.

Lol I've never tried hotdogs as a bite. Maybe next time some corn or worm :) It's the most exciting thing for kids to go fishing. Looks like a fun day!

this is really fun and i love seeing children catching fun like this. what a cute children you have @Papa-pepper. @little-pepper on point
