"Fed" Up!
I'm done playing nice.
Aaron and I tried to watch Gifted last night, but it was nothing more than the same insufferable anti homeschool propaganda. The kid was homeschooled and brilliant, but better off standardized by federal institutions than becoming like her depressed suicidal parents. Sound familiar? It was the same plot of the movie Off The Map and the recent flop Captain Fantastic. I can't think of an instance where Hollywood got it right about homeschooling. I can't believe they are still churning out this bull poop in modern times. We have to be scaring the establishment. That's the only reason I can think of why movies these days are so brazenly wrong about an increasing and overwhelming majority of home educators and their children. We finally turned the movie off when the bright, young, homeschooled orphan's uncle asked the school to literally "dumb her down" to be more "normal" like the other kids. He paraphrased the title of the best written and most condemning book of compulsory education on the market, Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Education, written by one of the most awarded and cherished public school teachers of all time and spun it all around like it was a freaking good idea. That right there, sick, bent and manipulated value assessment to contort good to bad and bad to good, this nihilistic misapprehension or more likely misdirection is exactly what you may learn in public school if you care anymore. My head nearly exploded in that moment. What in the absolute frack is going on???
Please, meet the overwhelming majority of amazing homeschooled and unschooled children. They are being selected at high rates to attend Ivy League schools currently. They may even seem gifted, but I don't believe in select gifted children. I believe that children are natural geniuses, inquisitive, brilliant and remarkable if allowed to follow their own interests. It's only after leaving school for some time as adults and chasing our passions sadly demoted to hobbies that we start to get that spark back when our retention is not nearly what it was when we were intended to really go after knowledge, in childhood.
Where would society be right now if we hadn't allowed institutionalized education beat the light out of us and make education a job, subjects of interest in isolated seemingly unrelated bubbles with classes that don't naturally intersect like a body of knowledge does in the real world, and places to get "educated" modeled literally after prisons? Do you know how many people are better for having a prison sentence? That's what has been done to us.
Since Hollywood has gotten this so wrong over and over and over, I'm just going to put it to you straight about what has been done to most of us living today. If you ask how an unschooled kid can learn math or will want to learn math or any other subject for that matter as you've been taught it then you've been brainwashed entirely about how education works into a false paradigm that explains its precise opposite. Feel free to quote me on that.
Let's keep releasing our normally brilliant children on the world so they understand that we aren't going to stop, comply and play along. We will tell them our children played all day, followed their passions and that was the secret formula to their success. Kids should get to be kids, you Hollywood scaredy cats, and if they aren't, if they are parent hating, resentful, depressed and medicated little contortions of what they could have been, it's because your beloved "socialized" prison made it so. Stop painting the homeschoolers, the alternative to drugs and prison schools in your movies as the medicated, suicidal and miserable people who failed at living beyond your grotesque social experiment when you are well aware the reverse is true.
Yes, life naturally comes with hardship, suffering, pain and a bunch of things we teach our children through example to embrace, face and rise above rather than drown out with your drugs which have lead to none other than an increase in suicides and with your endless bells and with your senseless repetition that your social institutions capitalize on!
We are what's left of normal. Get out of our collective heads with your perversions and nihilistic manipulation! We are not backing down!
