What to Tell your Children ??

Many parents confuse what they should tell their children about school. They realize the system is in need of change, but they also feel their children need to be going to school. Here are the key messages you should be communicating with your kids:

Education, school & grades

Education Is a Lifelong Process.

Going to school is just a part of that process—sometimes one of the smallest parts. There are many valuable skills to learn from school, but never stop pursuing the things you want to learn. Think for yourself. Make educational choices that will help you develop your own special gifts.

School Is Primarily an Employment Process.

It is designed to prepare you to earn money (but not necessarily to create real wealth) and to operate acceptably in the area of life we call work.

It Is a Game of Winners and Losers.

Play hard and play fair. Always have compassion and humility when you are winning and the courage to get back up when you've been knocked down. Be kind to all students regardless of their popularity, their academic rating, or the difficulties they face in their lives. Take time to reach out to kids who are on the fringe. Not only is it a humane habit to have, but it also gives you the opportunity to learn about different people. As classmates of Albert Einstein found out, the class nerd might just turn out to be the next Nobel Prize winner.

Commitment & Learning

If You Start, Commit to Finish.

Learning to accept challenges. Having the tenacity to do your best and finish what you start are lifelong skills worth cultivating. Quitting when things get tough is not a habit one wants to develop. Discipline, particularly in the face of adversity, is a valuable asset in this world.

Schools Are Great Places to Learn How to Find Information.

As long as you are going to be there, make the most of your time at school. Learn how to locate specific information. Many teachers are good researchers. Use them wisely by asking them questions about where you might go to get information, on virtually any and 'all questions that might occur to you, and to some that might not. Practice keeping your mind open to subjects you know nothing about. Instead of saying no to opportunities that are offered, fry saying yes and watch what happens. It is often those areas you think you're going to hate that turn out to be the most personally fulfilling.

The depth of knowledge is far more important than getting the 'right" answers in order to pass a test. And you can achieve this depth only if you know where to go for information. Learning to do this quickly and efficiently is a skill that will serve you for the rest of your life, regardless of the jobs or professions you choose in the future.

Thought Process

It's Better to Look Stupid Than to Be Stupid.

If you don't understand something, ask for clarification. If the teacher wants a volunteer, volunteer. People learn more by participation than by being silent and attempting to 100k cool. Be willing to make mistakes—they are the primary way we learn. Make many of them. If a school is boring, then get entertained by being willing to participate. Be respectful but have fun.

Take Advantage of Being Young.

There are adventures and opportunities that are best accomplished while you are young. Plenty of time remains after school to be a serious, career-oriented stick-in-the-mud. Helen Keller once said, "Life is a daring adventure or nothing." Let your curiosity be your guide. Enjoy your youth. This will help you to have a youthful adulthood.

Seek the One "Right" Answer—But Don't Stop There!

Figure out what answer the teacher expects, but then find a minimum of two more answers. Having the ability to find multiple answers to problems in life will provide you with options. These options are the key to freedom. After all, there are no right answers in life; there are only multiple choices. A life without choices can quickly turn into a misery.

Believe in Yourself.

Don't take labeling and grading too seriously. It is done for the benefit of the teachers. It does not mean that you are smart or that you are dumb. Everyone learns in different ways and at different rates. Your grades in school don't determine what you are able to do in the future. Follow your dreams no matter what anyone tells you!

"My Love IS Forever."

Tell your children that no matter how they do in school, they are very special to you. Remember that school is only a game. Assur your kids that school and grades will come and go, but you will always love theme
