Many times we've subscribed to failures not because we are not academically sound but because of the fake and vague subconsciousness of our predecessors towards examinations which has successfully disoriented us.

If Barak Obama has been intimidated by the number of times the blacks have failed in America, he wouldn't have been the US president.

The word "examination" most times appear scary to students irrespective of their level of academic brilliancy especially when it has to do with mean or quiet lecturers. Different reactions can be elicited from the school environment during this tense period. No more partying, sickness cautiously creep in, students begin to look for pseudo a lecturers a month their colleagues, lecture notes are kept more carefully than one's good name, and tittle or no time is devoted to unnecessary jests or gossip. No wonder a friend of mine called examination a compulsory birthday which brings students to their conscious state of absolute seriousness.

Cambridge Advance Learners Dictionary defined examination as a test of a student's knowledge or skill in a particular subject which results in a qualification if the student is successful yet its authentically as the true test of knowledge remains controversial among scholars tp-date.

This article will be focus on the social psycho emotional preparedness of students in relation to exam anxiety tips which I will personallyrecommened because they've worked for e and are still working for me.

There are several categorical reasoms for students academic challenges but the following are the basics reasons of students accademic failure according to my visibility study;
  1. Lack of motivation
  2. Family challenges
  3. Extreme dislike for the course/lecturer In charge
  4. Peer discrimination
  5. Lack of good food
  6. Health disorder
  7. Change in student's choice of course
  8. Involvement in multi-social activities
  9. Spiritual bankruptcy
  10. Over confidence
  11. Sleeplessness
  12. Inadequate time for the exam
  13. Ignorance of examination instructions
  14. Unfavourable exam benue
  15. Isolation
  16. Lack of concentration during reading/inadequate reading skills e.t.c...

After been observed the reasons for students academic challenges, it is pertinent to is her you into how to comport yourself before, during and after exam to guarantee you unlimited academic success.

Before the exam:

  1. Extablish a pattern of revision that gives you time to relax, especially last thing at night. Experiment until you find the best way of relaxing to suit you - a long bath, exercise, listening to music, or a long stroll.

  2. Relaxation and positive stress management techniques can be learned and acquired with practice.

  3. Think about the subjects you are revising, make sure you know the rules and regulations about what you can take into the exam room.

  4. Consult your predecessors in your department on the course to be taken and familiarize yourself with the past questions and answers and engage in group discussion or tutorial to authenticate your mastery of the course.

  5. Put yourself into a positive frame of mind by imagining how your would LIKE things to go. Imagine yourself turning JP for the exam feeling confident and relaxed - try to picture it on as Mich details as possible.

  6. Don't always rely on the
Last minute of the night or mor ing before the exam.
Ast-minute revision may leave you feeling muddled and anxious especially in the face of Nigeria's epileptic power supply.

During the exam:

The following approach can help settle your nerves when you get into the exam room and sot down:

  1. Take another deep breath in and a long breath out, then breathe normally.

  2. Lookstraighth ajead at something inanimate (wall, picture etc) and focus your mind on the positive thought 'I CAN DO THIS EXAM' as you breathe out.

  3. You have few minutes to read the paper, so do so thoroughly, read the whole paper once, then read it again and mark the questions you think you can answer. Read those questions carefully and make sure you understand what is required and select the ones you are going to answer.

  4. Decide on the order in which you'll answer the questions. It is usually best to begin with the one you feel most confident about. Think about how you will plan your time, and stick to your plan.

  5. Plan out your answer for each question as you go. If you find that thoughts or ideas about other questions come into your head, jot them down on a separate poece of paper - don't spend time thinking about them.

  6. If your concentration wanders or you begin to feel panicky, you could try the focusing exercise again, PR use one of the following techniques to help you overcome anxious thoughts.

The Sociopsychomotional Approach

The sociopsychomotional approach adopts anxiety management techniques to solve the varying academicchallengnes of examinations. These include:

  1. Thought-stopping Techniques
  2. Use a Mantra
  3. Focusing
  4. Self-talk
  5. Think Positive
  6. Assess your progress

Panacea to Examinations nervousness

  1. Start revision EARLY. Trying to grasp a whole swmwsters work in the final days or hours before an exam is likely to lead to more anxiety.
  2. Plan a structured revision timetable; set yoirself achievable fpal, include breaks and pleasurable activities.
  3. Think about the kind of questions that will be asked and practise with past exam papers.
  4. Seek help and advice from senior colleagues in your department if there is anything you are not sure about. They can be very instrumental.
  5. Make sure you look after your general wellbeing; eat regularly and well, take regular breaks and get some exercise, keep to a regular sleep routine, don't study late and nap in the day.

Ten Rules of Combating Examination Tension

  1. Remember the feelings are nothing more than an exaggeration of the normal bodily reaction to stress.
  2. They are not in the least harmful or dagerous. Nothing worst will happen.
  3. Stop adding to the panic with frightening thoughts about what is happening and where it might lead.
  4. Now notice what is really happening in your body right npw, not what you fear might happen.
  5. Now wait and give the fear time to pass, witgout fighting it or running away from it. Just accept it.
  6. Notice that once you stop adding to it with frightening thoughts, the fear starts to fade away by itself.
  7. Remember that the wholenpoimt of practice is learning how to cope with fear - without avoiding it. This is an opportunity to make progress.
  8. Think about the progress you have made so far despite the difficulties and how pleased you will be when you succeed thisntime.
  9. When you begin to feel better, look around you and start thinking what to DL next.
  10. Then, when you are ready to go on, start off in an easy and relaxed way - there's no need for effort or hurry.

Winning ways, how best to answer exam questions

  1. Read the question carefully
  2. Plan your answer first
  3. Answer it
  4. Explain and give evidence for your answer
  5. Answer academically
  6. Reference appropriately
  7. Keep your language clear and concise
  8. Ensure your exam paper is presentable and legible.
  9. Put some time aside at the end for prompt revision.

Conclusively, Iimtentionallyl made this write up an academic one in order for you to I understand the sociopsycho emotional preparedness required to excel in every examination but all these are not unconnected to the fact tha you need God to give you good success.

Really it is nature inherent. It must come, hence you don't know yet where the exam question is coming from

I remembered when I was in school, we used to have different attitude for exams

The dread which people feel at the mere mention of exam, no matter how prepared they are, is mainly psychological . And I think you have succeeded in giving tips on how one can manage the situation and the best among them is actually, adequate preparation. Kudos
