Shop Owners Quiver As They Withstand Maduro’s Paquetazo
Recently I wrote a post about the effects that the recent economic measures imposed by the Nicolas Maduro regime are producing.
Merchants and entrepreneurs of Barquisimeto do not finish digesting the economic package announced by the government and are afraid of the effects that they can cause and qualify as "kill companies."
More than 200 companies have suspended their activities and around 500 businesses have declared bankruptcy in the last two years thanks to the national economic crisis.
Carlos Quintero, owner of a sale of spare parts in the city has decided to keep his business downstairs while the situation with prices is normalized. It ensures that the income obtained from the sale of spare parts for vehicles will not have the capacity to pay salaries and replenish inventories. "I can not open the business, I can not work to lose, and I really do not know how I am going to pay that salary to my workers."
María Zabaleta, owner of a footwear shop on the boulevard on Avenida 20 de Barquisimeto, says she joined the strike called by the opposition on August 21, but she felt pressured to open her store in the face of government threats. He points out that the best decision will be to sell all the merchandise, liquidate his business, and not work to lose.
