Earthquake felt near tibet

On January 7, 2025, at 8:11 AM local time, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck 149 kilometers west of Shigatse in Tibet, China.

The quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers. Given its moderate magnitude and remote epicenter, it is unlikely that this earthquake caused significant damage or was felt in Kathmandu, Nepal.

In recent weeks, Western Nepal has experienced increased seismic activity. Between mid-December 2024 and early January 2025, ten earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.0 or higher were recorded, predominantly in the western region. The most significant of these was a magnitude 5.2 quake in Bajura on December 20. Seismologists warn that this pattern may indicate a heightened risk of a major earthquake in Western Nepal.
