VOLCANODISCOVERY
The quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers. Given its moderate magnitude and remote epicenter, it is unlikely that this earthquake caused significant damage or was felt in Kathmandu, Nepal.

In recent weeks, Western Nepal has experienced increased seismic activity. Between mid-December 2024 and early January 2025, ten earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.0 or higher were recorded, predominantly in the western region. The most significant of these was a magnitude 5.2 quake in Bajura on December 20. Seismologists warn that this pattern may indicate a heightened risk of a major earthquake in Western Nepal.
RISING NEPAL

Given Nepal's vulnerability to seismic events, it is crucial for residents to remain vigilant and prepared. Implementing earthquake early warning systems, such as those being developed through collaborations between institutions like Duke University and Tribhuvan University, can play a vital role in mitigating the impact of future earthquakes.
