Malapascua

One of the many islands in the Philippines is called Malapascua. It is a little jewel unfortunately abused by tourism.

Walking down the coast you find Scuba diving center after the other. All manned by foreigners.
The price range between them was fairly similar but we had known about a dive center located in the middle of the island that is still managed and manned by locals. They also had the best prices on the island! These are the Sea slug divers! Highly recommened!

Myself and @rooddzy are seasoned scuba divers, we have over 300 combined dives together. Well we do live on an island :)
Anyway, it turns out the instructor never heard about Malta, yet while looking at the magazines on his desk I managed to spot 3 articles of dives in Malta!! What are the odds. He was out of words.

The Dive

We had to meet at 3 or 4am since we needed to get on a boat and drive to the dive spot before sunrise. The reason for this is that Thresher sharks come along side this ridge to have cleaner shrimps take care of them. While doing so they come up this steep ridge and offer a spectacular sight to divers. Here is a couple of images from the dive :)

Been to Malapascau to for a week back in 2015. Did my first dive ever there and got hooked up. Got my Padi open water, advanced and Nitrox at a local shop and I keep on diving :-)

Been to Monad Shoal (the Tresher dive spot) 2 times during my mandatory nitrox dives. The tales of these sharks are huge!!! :-)

btw, it's written Thresher shark :-)

ohhh you saved me there :) cheers for the correction
great you did the nitrox. watch out on getting too addicted, we kept going to trimix, advanced trimix and advande deco. every year buying new gear!

Last month in Egypt is did my 100'th dive, 2,5 year after Malapascua.

Wanted to go in the tech diving direction but my girlfriend stood on the brake. Gone spend my money on building our house first but it's still on my mind as something I want to do ;-)

This sounds like a lot of fun, I will record the next time I dive definitely!

awsome mate! I need to gather a group of divers from here and have our own channel. whats your certification?

Wow! Even though I live in the Philippines I have never even heard of Malapascua. This place looks interesting. Gotta look more into it. And yes, sadly a lot of our nice places have already been worn down by heavy tourism. Hopefully our government will look into ways to preserve our natural wonders without compromising our tourism industry. And I see you met a gecko. They're usually harmless but they do bite down hard. Haha. Looking forward to more of your posts. I just love reading about the ocean and the sea. :D

Indeed, unfortunately gov's usualy have different politics to drive more tourists :(
we started our round at coron and we loved the place, when we moved to El Nido which was supposed to be a jem, we wanted to get out as soon as possible. Following that I discarded the lonely planet and started to ask locals and other friends where to go. We got hold of a couple of deserted islands. will post on them later. yes Malapascua was on our list since it is easy there to do diving with thresher and white tip sharks. it is really beautiful but you can see the effect on tourisim and its only gonna get worse.

If you would like to check another island, go to Isla de Gigantes. loved everybit of it. There we met with only 1 tourist, a crazy british guy and it was a case of hello bye and we never saw him again. There we had some amazing really cheap food and stayed in a beautiful hut.

Awesome,i love underwater vids.

Great Post! I just found this by accident 2 days after i posted my own about diving with tresher sharks in malapascua! Feel free to visit my latest post about it. Would love to share experience. Have you been at tubbataha reef? one of my next destinations im aiming to go.

Malapascua is just a magic place and i had a great time with the sharks there ;)
