RE: Flat Earth Horizon and Angular Size Experiments part 1

in #dtube7 years ago

Be sure to include in any modeling that the ground does not rise to eye level, but the horizon drops. This is observable, measurable, repeatable, falsifiable, predictable science that has been measured for over 200 years with a precision instrument called a theodolite

I'm not sure if you 'literally' meant rises TO eye level, or if that was just a general statement, but the horizon does not rise all the way to eye level, and it progressively drops as one gets higher in elevation. It's one of the pieces of evidence for how we know the earth is round.

This is an experiment anyone can do to see for themselves. No need to get an expensive theodolite, but just install an app on your phone or, even better, spend a little bit of money on something called an auto level, or you could even just tape a rifle sight to a level, ensuring that the cross hairs truly are level.

Here's an example of the phone app showing horizon drop at elevation. I'm sure that I could find the chart for the amount the horizon drops at the different altitudes if you want me to dig up that info.

If you prefer, you can even design your own leveling rig or water level, and see it without the need for technology, as in the image below.
