A Free Way To Protect Your Garden From Pests

in #dtube6 years ago

Now that spring is here everything is waking up. The flowers, the fruit trees, and even the bugs are ready to rise. When it comes to gardening there are some bugs that we want to encourage in the garden, and others that we could do without.

The praying mantis is one of the best bugs a gardener could hope to find, so today I want to show you how to do that for free.
I hope you enjoy as we go along on a local journey to find praying mantis nests.

In this video, the aim is that you learn the benefits of mantis’ in your garden and where to find them.
I believe with a good eye and a little bit of luck you could go find some praying mantis nests of your own.
Just remember if you do find some, treat it like you would when you harvest mushrooms, don’t take more then you need and leave some so the next generation can prosper in that location.

bro, i just love this!!! i remember your first harvest of mantis....from your other video. it always stuck with me as the coolest way to have integrated pest management in the food forest. just go out and get the wild ones...and bring em back..rather than wait for them to eventually find your garden. geez.....BRILLIANT! thanks bro...please keep it COMING! :)))) off to find some mantis!

Years ago I heard it was against the law to kill them in some States as they were so beneficial. Don't know if that's still the case though.

I’m not sure if it is either @evernoticethat, but I don’t think it would be a bad idea. Especially here in New Jersey, the more to hunt down the mosquitos the better lol 😂

The mantis is an insect with superior properties. Especially his eyes move independently of each other. As always, it was a great work.@gardeningchannel

I agree it definitely is an amazing creature! I never knew that about the eyes @turkishcrew, that’s interesting and makes sense why it’s such a good ambush predator. Thanks for sharing that info my friend

No Praying Mantis in Northern Germany - but we do other things. We offer nisting places + winter feed for the birds: every bug a tit feeds to its kids is a bug that won't bug me ;)
And we love our hedgehogs, these guys have a huge appetite (even if they have bad table manners, you can hear them eat from quite a distance).

I love that you provide nesting places, that’s a smart idea. I also love your philosophy about using nature to keep the nuisance bugs away.
Haha 😂
