Crossing the Andes: August 21st 2019
Weather was uncertain during August. Snow can close in fast over the peaks. I had ten days left on my Visa and took the first opportunity to cross over to Chile.
Although cold, the weather was extremely kind with dry roads all the way without having to worry about ice. Las Cuevas came ar just the right time to boost my core temperature: a hot meal of chicken, potatoes and vegetables in a restaurant warmed by the jet blast of a kerosene heater. More than enough body fuel to see me over the border and down the mountains to the mild green valleys of Chile and onto the Pacific coast of Valparaiso.
