This song was originally called The V (the five),

This is you straight Soul song, I love the snare on every beats on the chorus, giving it that Motown feeling to it.

This song was featured in my first album, it's actually the only track of the album that was performed live, and by this I mean that all the musicians and instruments were gathered in the same room and jamming.

When you work on a album and you have a very precise idea in mind, it's normally preferable to record the instruments one by one, on a sequencer, using a click.

But I really needed the drums and the band to have an organic feeling to it, almost like a someone's breathing, so I wanted the tempo to fluctuate slightly to give that live feeling to it.

We decided with Dylan Ellis at the time, that the best way to do so is to play it live

If I remember correctly, it was a local gospel band that are playing on the song, the bassist being Patrick, a guy from Congo DRC that I met few years back came with his "friends from church".
Patrick was speaking french, which made him my instant friend at the time :) . I think it helped with communicating what I wanted for the song too.

All the musicians were killers, with amazing tempo and they jammed with me like their life depended on it that day :)

It was one of the most accelerating recording session , I never do well when the red light is on, but the energy in the room was so high that day, I think we got what we wanted after the first take which is very rare.

Backing vocals were added later, that's the only non-live part of the song.

It's a song about a whole generation getting blackout drunk in bars and clubs. Like you all did this week end ! hahaha

My favorite lyric in the song is :
"Take the blue pill please, and my soul gonna get cured"

I hope this song will give you the Modjo for Monday!

enjoy
