Man With A Saxophone / creating a backing track using pro logic

in #dsound7 years ago (edited)

Hi thanks for coming here and welcome my name is Clive Martin the Man with a saxophone!

I have pretty much been musical from the age of 4 when I first started out with a recorder and was taught by my mum at that age. As I grew older I took up the trumpet and excelled very quickly but then later took up the saxophone which actually affected my lip tones which a lot of people would not understand but imagine a brass instrument blowing technique using a stretched smile omnisure or shape where a wood wind instrument is more of a pout lip shape so it did change my lip muscles so those high end trumpet notes did get harder although a few talented people can manage both.

My love for saxophone playing took over though but I also do like vocalising and my gospel background which is where I first started is probably why my head is built like an internal mp3 player which practically is the reason why I find improvising to most genres has become second nature. No worrying about what key we are playing in here.

Anyway this track was my first and only attempt at creating a backing track using a program called pro logic for the mac. It took me less than an hour to put together. Been part of this platform over the last 5 weeks has really inspired me to start investing in studio equipment to bring fresh material so you will find I can work my way around a keyboard quite well and I do like to sing so sometimes I have been known to pick up a guitar and sing as it's pretty dam hard to sing with a saxophone in your mouth although my last upload I did do a demo of myself attempting all three at my friends house where I recorded over myself, a track that was never finished but again I am really excited at recent opportunities and my main love music is becoming the main focus and passion of my life which is where i feel happy because everything else is extra.

The photo was a performance with a very talented group called "The Rivalry" a indie/dance group who I actually met for the first time 24 hours before the performance on a song called touch the sky. i will be introducing them here very soon along with a whole bunch of talented musicians that I have played alongside so look out for that coming soon.

Us music artists can be very big perfectionists so again yes I want to revisit this backing track but personally I do like around 2:57 where it starts building into a different tempo.

Anyway for now in the words of Abraham Lincoln " The only way to predict your future is create it" so my music friends go out and shine like the diamond you are because each and everyone of us has some kind of talent unique to ourselves and if you wake up and at the end of the day you didn't live the day that you wanted then wake up and start taking action to live your dream. Your not here to prove yourself to anyone else! :)

Such a brilliant genuine short mini-musical bio of yourself right from a wee 4 year old with your mother as teacher learning the recorder ,to trying the trumpet ,keyboard, guitar until finally finding your musical love The sexy sounding Saxophone ,just like Tracy's (my wife ) Grandfather like my mother -in -law used to tell us quite often while she was with us I would in fact say you are multi-lingual in a musical sense if there is such a saying Many times I have spoken with you & I did not know you were so talented with so many musical instruments. It is amazing how much can flow from your heart when you are writing on here .

Great work as usual Clive...
Have a great day Tom

Nice work, digging the drums! Eventhough I mostly use Ableton myself, I gave you a follow and will be checking out your future content.. :-)

Thanks for that yes i am going to get Ableton because my lap top is windows based and i got the keyboard modulator to rig up with my lap top but wondering if I can somehow get a full keyboard linked up to it which im sure i could . My friend who plays bongos recommend Ableton so its on the cards not cheap but will be worth it so yeah pretty excited. Got get my head around how to do that dlive which will be awesome cause i can just get a few djs in the studio and broadcast live so yeah some good times ahead. What do you write? :)

I love Logic, I been using it since it was Emagic Logic Audio :-)
