I agree to a certain point, but being a tripsitter is not as easy as you would think. It would perhaps be better to talk about something completely else than to make Nelly tell how she felt, so the right thing to do was most likely to chang the subject when she started feeling scared.
Precisely my thinking. To me it seemed like he had no plan of action if she started to get scared. That's not to say that he did everything wrong, but it seemed like he lacked experience of dealing with people in an altered state of mind.
