"How do I get them to leave me alone?"
Almost immediately, the planchette responded. It quickly glided around the board's surface, stopping briefly at seemingly random letters. Our recorder noted each one on a notepad. Finally, the planchette came to a rest.
Don't be so bright
We cast confused glances at each other.
"Don't be so bright? I don't understand."
The planchette began to move again.
You shine as lights to us
A chill descended my spine sending goosebumps to every inch of my skin.
"How do I turn my light off?"
But the planchette didn't move. This session was over. Such is typical when communicating with the spirit realm. They come and go as they please. When they speak, it's often vague and cryptic. The negative ones will try to deceive you.
But, I knew what this one meant. People who can see, hear, and/or feel spirits appear as bright, shining beacons to the other side. Can this light be turned off? Yes. Well, it can be controlled. Once it gets too bright, I'm not sure it can ever really be turned off completely. I'm not sure I want to anyway.
This story, while based on actual accounts, is not my story. I only played with an Ouija board once when I was in high school. I don't recommend it, especially as a game. If you choose to use one, I suggest taking it seriously and protecting yourself. When you open up a channel to the spirit realm, you never know what's going to come through. It might be something that decides to stick around. Maybe attach itself to you. Wouldn't that be fun?

Are Ouija boards still popular? They were all the rage when I was in high school and I wouldn't get near them for the exact reason you stated here.
Guess what Omra? My new next door neighbors moved in 2 months ago and our first conversation was about our experiences with the paranormal. I don't even know how we got on that topic. Ever since then, so many strange things have been happening to me and a couple of my neighbors. When I told the new neighbors about that their reply was very serious and they said, "I sure hope it isn't our fault that you are experiencing those things." It was as if they knew they were bringing bad energy with them.
Oooo, I don't like that. I would be asking them a lot of questions. Something could definitely be following them. I might consider burning sage.

I can't wait to hear about it. You're welcome. Burning sage is easy to do. I do it every once in a while and there is a noticeable difference in energy in my apartment. It feels lighter.

Let me begin telling you what has been going on. I will tell you in parts. First, it is important for you to know that the house my new neighbors moved into had one original owner only. I will refer to them as Mr & Mrs One. They lived in the house for 65 years. Mr. One passed away about 15 years ago. Mrs One kept telling me and everyone that she was never going to move out of the house, that she wanted to die in the house. I checked on her everyday after she began to fall and hurt herself. Her family lives close by but they were busy at work, etc. You wouldn't believe how badly injured she was with each fall. I think her family should have had home health care but they didn't. Anyway, one morning a year ago I found her on the floor in the kitchen and blood was everywhere. I called an ambulance. She cut her head and arm with the fall. During her hospital stay, her family told me that she had the beginning of dementia. When Mrs One recovered from her wounds, her family put her in a nursing home. She was miserable and demanded to be cared for in her home. When I visited her at the nursing home, she was still smart as a whip. To be continued.....

A great story that has me thinking. I wonder if I would want to dim or turn off the brightness. It's a highly personal question/choice, as with anything in regards to the paranormal and spirituality. I do feel acting with respect and caution is a must when dealing with such.
On one of my many treks alone into the night when I was a kid, I finally mustered the guts to make my way into one of the long-abandoned houses up the road. (It is still standing, though the last time I saw it looked like a strong sneeze would knock it down.) There's a lot that went on that night but pertinent to my reply here is that I found a ouija board inside and ended up bringing it home.
I went online and found this image which does match the ratty box that the board was in. (But I remember the board itself being a different color from the one in this photo.)
I never did end up trying it though. I've always been a curious person but everything that I saw in the library said that it worked better with others (and my dog didn't count). My mother was furious when she found it and there were repercussions for my daring to bring it into her house. The board is gone now, it burned in a fire, but sometimes I wonder if, even though I didn't use it, maybe something came home with me. Positive or negative, that I can't be sure of either as there were times in that house that I was alone (physically) and felt safe and other times where I wasn't alone (physically) and was scared. The question is there along with the wonder.
Sounds like the beginning to a really scary movie! Yes, more than one person should have a finger on the planchette. I'd be pissed too, if I were your mom. Whoever used it could have left something behind.

Nice use of shine, being so visible is a danger in itself which is maybe why those who feel they are weak / insecure would not care much for someone to who shines brightly to come into their space.
