Maryland man killed in Friday crash in Fauquier County

The Virginia State Police is investigating a crash that killed one person in Fauquier County on Friday.

According to police, the crash occurred around 6:50 p.m. on Winchester Road, just north of Interstate 66.

A 2021 Jeep Wrangler heading north on Winchester Road crossed a double solid yellow centerline and hit a southbound 2017 Dodge Ram head-on.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as 43-year-old Gilbert F. Dzakpasu of Germantown, Maryland, died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge, a 22-year-old man from Marshall, was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

Police say speed is considered a factor in the crash.
