Here are the Specifications of my Drift Race Car
I decided to share some basic information about my racing car specs. The base model was BMW 3 series / E30 is the model number/ 320i, 2 door coupe. The chassis gone into very long stripping, cutting and reinforcing process. The car changed few engine setups also till we stopped at the current supercharged BMW V8s.
Body:
1988 BMW E30
Custom widebody M3 E30 body kit - the car is 1930mm wide /original 1645мм/
Fully seam welded body with fabricated firewall, tunnel and etc. this is because engine was moved 20 cm backwards for better weight distribution and dynamic balance
FIA 10 point rollcage
Tube front and rear parts of the car /more practical for repairs/
Custom built from scratch fuel system with cooling, dual fuel pump setup with catch tanks
New and simple wiring, switches and relay electric system
Custom tailored to my preference hydraulic handbrake system
FIA Fire Suppression system
Total weight of the car with pilot and fuel is 1140 kg. Current static balance is 52% front /48% back with car transferring a lot of the weight backwards during acceleration.
Engine:
BMW V8 M62B44 engine with oil pan and oil pump from 6 series BMW - this is again because engine is moved backwards and we had to fabricate new bottom layout for the engine to fit in the engine bay.
Rotrex supercharger C38-92 pushing 0.7 bar boost
ECUMaster ECU with full engine rewiring
Custom made cooling systems for air, oil, water, fuel, supercharger oil
The engine is making 500HP / 650Nm at the crank . It is a mild but reliable setup with zero problems for last two seasons.
Suspension:
XYZ coilover suspension with custom ratio springs
The suspension is set so the car to run without sway bars this is for more grip
Wisefab drift steering system with personal modifications
Custom built rear subframe with a lot of camber/toe adjustments /very important for drifting/
Trans:
6 speed BMW Getrag gearbox
Custom driveshaft
Reinforced axle shafts
Custom built 70% lock BMW differentials with various ratios for different tracks and layouts.
Tires:
The car runs 215/40 R17 Falken Ziex ZE914 on a 7.5 inch ET15 offset rim at front for better tire clearance at full lock
And 255/40 R17 or 265/40 R17 Falken Azenis FK453 on a 9.5 inch ET13 rim at back for more grip and smoke ;-)
Brakes:
308mm front rotors with Brembo 4 piston calipers
300mm rear rotors with dual BMW calipers /one set for brake system, another set for hydraulic handbrake system /
I will continue with more interesting details in my next post. And will share some thoughts for the long process making the car reliable and strong contender in the drift races.
That looks ridiculously fun to drive/race. The power to weight ratio.... hell yeah!
Yes it is, sometimes when I didnt drove it the first time I push it it scares me, but this is the fun part. I like your "hell yeah" - this phrase describes exactly how the car runs. :-)
You can go more crazy about removing weight also but is very expensive /carbon fibre, Kevlar/ because you push a lot an always have damage on the corners of the body kit . Glass fibre is cheaper to fix and make but heaver.
I will love to share with more with you guys and planing big 4 part evolution story " How a computer guy became Pro drifter". So I will be happy to share with you this adventure in Motorsport.
Thanks for sharing this with us, the drift car looks really well made. I don't see any information mentioning how much all of these modifications and upgrades have cost, but I'm sure that they did cost a lot and not only money, but time and efforts installing them and setting everything up...
I hope to give some inside look at the sport and life called drifting. It is very demanding in every way but is it thing to do and makes you better person. You build cars but you build yourself also, you will be more organised, more patient. Analysing your mistakes makes you better and you can always improve your car or yourself !
Very old race driver once told me that "Motorsport builds personality" and I see that he was right !
