Ford Mustang is 'dream car' gift for Saudi Arabian woman
A Saudi Arabian woman got the right to drive, then she got an iconic American muscle car built in Michigan as a gift from Ford Motor Co.
Sahar Hasan Nasif, 64, a retired English literature professor, took ownership of a bright yellow 2018 Ford Mustang GT convertible on Monday. It was 20 years after she had fallen in love with the Mustang and just days after Saudi Arabian women got the right to drive in the country.
The muscle car had rolled off the Flat Rock Assembly line in March, Ford said.
“This is just amazing," Nasif said in a written statement. "From the announcement of the decree on lifting the ban last September, to actually having my very own Mustang, it really is a dream come true.”
Two weeks ago, Saudi Arabia lifted its ban on women driving. Women in Saudi Arabia are still subject to guardianship laws. Those rules, which require women in Saudi Arabia to get permission from male guardians for a range of activities, have been eased somewhat but have not been fully revoked.
