What do you think when you see a price like 9.99?

Cent

Many shops, supermarkets, internet sellers are applying prices ending with 9 or 99 or even 999. Some people don’t care, some are sometimes angry, but this is so common you may have been used to it. What do you think in effect?

  • Good that this is only 9

  • 10 is too much for me

  • I’m not a fool, bitch!

  • This company isn’t honest, that price can’t be fairly calculated

  • Don’t bother me with 1 cent

  • What are the additional costs? (Shipping, handling etc.)

I always consider it round up at the back of my mind :)

Perfect 👍 Think exactly the same. Don't bother me with 1 cent. And what's the difference anyway...

💯 Really nothing!

It's a tax thing...

Taxes aren't percental?

I can't really explain it,you will have to do some research...but there is a trick somewhere..

To make the item look less expensive. :-)

The real science behind it is not what it seems. Most retailers in food and drapery use it as this system to track reductions. If you have all your full price items at xx.99 and you reduce it , the system will reduce it to xx.00. Immediately you have a progamming fork that gives you the difference between all items reduced (all xx.00) and full price items (xx.99). In the 80s this was the only system that could track this so it was kept on.

Interesting, thank you.
