Beagles are still used for lab experiments. Read a little about the history of lab beagles in this post. Long story short, we 'resqued' Ziggy 6 months ago. There weren't done any experiments on him, but he had been in solitary confinement for about 4 weeks until we picked him up when he was 13 weeks old. He'd never seen or experienced any humans, other dogs than Beagles, rain, cars, bikes, wind, snow, sound of coffee machine, doors closing etc. etc. He couldn't be alone for more than 1 minute... Everything was scary as hell but now, 6 months later, he's doing great! He's full of energy, very curious and can take on the world! His 'I can do anything' mentally now, is so worth all the hard work in the beginning.
