RE: What's your favorite conference, lecture, panel discussion, or event?
I am not a big conference goer any longer so I don't have any recommendations that would be relevant. If you don't mind me asking though, do you work for a private company or do you work for a university doing research?
I do know that the American Society of Landscape Architects has a very well attended conference each year and those people are the ones who design with plants so that would be the only suggestion I could recommend.
I didn't realize that the American Society of Landscape Architects had a conference. That is a great addition to my list!
I do not work for a private company or a university. I am independent and collaborate with a number of organizations for research and development of projects, though my main passion is conference speaking, lecturing, panel discussions, and the like, hence the request.
I am also the Communications Manager and a biomimicry facilitator for a nonprofit that develops nature-inspired solutions (mainly #biomimicry and circular economy) for education and large grant projects (mainly EU funded grants).
Now that we are exchanging professions, may I ask what you do?
I am a former ditch digger and now I sell water related products.
Here is the link to their annual conference coming up in October https://www.aslameeting.com/
Neat! I have spent a fair amount of time around diggers and other heavy machinery when I toured with Cirque du Soleil and building The Temples of Humankind. Lately, I only get to ride around on the tractors. hehehe
Ahhh, now you baited me again with the Cirque du Soleil. I am going to let you reel me in on this one. As much as hate too, I will go ahead and guess and then you can tell me I am wrong and then tell the capacity.
I am guessing that your were an Arial acrobat, or as like to call them, a flying trapeze artist. So, how far did I miss by?
I did look at that link of the temples, seemed like a pretty neat project.
I only wish! I originally went on tour to support my partner at the time. He was a carpenter and stage hand. I eventually because the backstage manager for the tour we were on, but came off tour pretty quickly. I actually love touring, but it turns out that that particular show was not right for me.
I did co-own a circus many moons ago. There I was responsible for shows, marketing, and the like. But I was also a stilt-walker, hula hooper, fire performer, and performance piercer. This was at the time that I was also producing events with lots of performance, music, and art. It was a great period! I have written about some of this if you look at my first posts. I have a pretty varied past, and some of it is already recorded on the blockchain... which kind of scares me at times! :p
Well you have the appearance and smile of a gymnast and several former gymnasts make the transition to the circus so that was my reasoning for such a guess.
I will have to look at some of your early works on here when I have some additional time, it sounds like quite a lot for being so young or you are very good at hiding your age. Hmmm, that might be from the circus, magic acts?
Clever man... I have been told I hide my age quite well, though it is hidden in plain sight! To give you a hint, I graduated from the university in 1996!
