Yoga Intensive on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
This course will offer detailed study of the origins, meanings, and
practices that can be revealed through the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The
primary text used for the course will be The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali,
translation and commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda. The course will
focus on the first two chapters. The first chapter, Samadhi Pada-
focuses on the state of mental perception and the purpose of yoga in
restraining the mental fluctuations. The course will assist teachers in
developing/using chanting and meditation techniques to develop
practices related to the first chapter. (The first chapter will be
taught by Becky.) The second chapter, Sadhana Pada, will explore
practices related to the eight limbs of yoga with emphasis on teaching
techniques and methods for teachers to assist students in understanding
the eight limbs and incorporating these into meaningful personal
practices. (The second chapter will be taught by Dr. Heather.)
The anatomy instruction will touch on the brain and how various regions
process information and will include a review of the anatomy of
breathing. Dr. Jay will illuminate this information.
Participants will gain knowledge and skills to equip them to develop
their understanding and use of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in their
teaching and personal practices.
