Jeff Passan on Twitter: "Nationals star and World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg plans to opt out of the final four years and $100M of his contract today and become a free agent, sources familiar with the situation tell ESPN."

World Series hero Stephen Strasburg wants to cash in on his season and get paid. Although it is not as if he didn't have some money coming to him.
ESPN is reporting that he opted out of the final 4 years of his deal. It was set to pay him $100 million over that time. This is part of a 7 year, $1`75 million deal he signed a few years ago.
The opt out does not mean he is leaving the Nationals. He had an exceptional season and is happy in Washington. With Scott Boras as his agent, he is looking to leverage it into a maximum amount of money.
If I had to bet on this one, I would say that he will be with the Nationals next season. I think another year or two added to the deal with more money will get it done. Perhaps a 5 year, $150 million deal is where they end up.
