Hand Made Woven Coaster

in #diy7 years ago

I am a stay at home mum, and whenever possible on my free time (during my child sleep), I would like to try new things. One is making a DIY (do it yourself) projects.

I love making DIY, There is something in it that makes me feel relax, kind of therapeutic thing to me.

I have recently learning to weave, I have made circle coaster, book mark and just recently another coaster with a heart shape.

This is the first circle coaster i made

Whenever i see the finish product of my art work, I feel proud and contented, something i can take pride of. It's all worth while. Indeed, one can never be old in learning new things.

Materials i have used

  1. Yarn
  2. Pencil
  3. Scissor
  4. Ruler/tape measure
  5. Cardboard paper
  6. Tape
  7. Fork
  8. Needle (plastic)

This is the guideline in making my heart shaped coaster.

  • First i made a loom using a card board paper. It should be sturdy enough to keep the threads in shape.

  • Measure one inch from the edge of the paper on both opposites sides, and draw a line across each side. This will serves as a cutting guide.

  • Measure 1/4 cm above the line according to the size you prefer, and cut.

  • I drew a heart shape at the center, this will be my guide in creating a heart in the center.

  • Wedge the yarn on the first line, leaving two inches allowance. (Putting a tape at the back will save you from getting confuse later).

  • Then go across to the opposite and wedge at the first line.

  • Then all the way up to the opposite side.

  • Starting from the middle of the heart drawing, warp your thread under and over. Once you reach the end of the line, start again to the next line. (Just below the last line).

(Make sure not to pull tightly so it stays in shape. Make an arc or U- shaped, and used a fork or ruler to push up.)

  • As the line becomes narrower to the bottom, i skipped one line in both sides in each line.

(If you are running out of thread or would want to change color, leave a few inches from the last thread and start another one).

  • Once the heart was all warped, start warping above the shape by going under and over process.

(Along warping of the outline, I secure the loose thread by doing the back stitch)

20180318_130651.jpg

  • When it's all done. Secure the loose thread by hiding them in a back stitch. Make sure it is secured so it is not loose when you remove from the loom.

20180318_225822.jpg

  • Remove the thread one at a time and cut in the middle, and do a double knot.

Hey@sherylneil! That's really clever! Using cardboard and a fork to create what you've done is a masterpiece of work, WOW! Being a stay at home mum I can see you have opportunities to hold classes with other mothers in your neighbourhood perhaps, and charge for your services. Keep up the good work! Peace.
