DIY Steampunk Shelves and Introduction

in #diy8 years ago

Before starting my DIY I would like to introduce myself. My name is Erik and I have been involved in crypto since Bitcoin was little. I have been a miner and trader most of the time, so I have built many mining rigs and currently am in the business of mining ethereum and playing with other crypto. I love the idea of Steem and threw some BTC to get some Steempower and have enjoyed it thus far. I am excited to get involved in the community and do some DIY for you guys. I am currently also building a movable bar for my house that will include 6-8 liquor taps on it. I will be writing that DIY in the near future, so watch out for it. If you have any questions about mining rigs or crypto, I would love to answer them! thanks for taking the time to read this!

So my wife and I needed some shelves for our computer room and we wanted them to be industrial. We decided on a steampunk look using black iron piping. We had to get the pipe, wall flanges, and caps on amazon since we are in Japan and they don't sell black iron piping here. We used 10" long 3/4" pipe with fitting caps and flanges. We decided on using 8 total for 4 shelves. Our first problem we ran into is that our house is typhoon-proof, and this wall in particular, is solid concrete. I had to use a concrete bit on an impact drill (I didn't have a hammer drill) and that took a while, but in the end, I got all the holes drilled and screwed in using concrete anchor screws.

We decided on a stacked offset look for the shelves. We measured out to make sure everything was straight and level. This is what it looked like with all 8 pipes in the wall

Finally we found some cool wood that was simply cut so that the edges of the tree were still there. My wife like the natural look of this wood so we went with it.

As you can see, each piece in unique and looks a little different from the last. Finally, we had to finish with putting stuff on the shelves. Of course, since it is the computer room, we can nerd out and fill them with great nerdy things.
