Why should we do pradakshina (circumambulate)?
It is a practice to go-around the deity or a temple or even ourself in a clock-wise direction and offer salutation. This clock-wise circumambulation is called Pradakshina i.e. circumambulation wherein the deity is always towards the right side (Dakshina = right) of the devotee. The ‘Right’ signifies faith in God and Dharmic principles, thus by exposing our right arm to Lord; we reiterate our devotion towards Him and our commitment to obey the dictates of Dharma.
Also the figure that we get while doing pradakshina is a circle. There cant be a circle without a centre point. Lord is the centre point of universe and everyone’s life. from the center is every point on the circumference of a circle is equidistant. This implies that everyone irrespective of his position is equally close to the Lord. His grace flows towards everyone without partiality.
