Free food offered to eligible seniors

The Central Texas Food Bank will distribute free food to eligible adults ages 60 and older at distribution events from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and the fourth Tuesday of each month thereafter at 2105 Parker Lane.

Attendees will receive food boxes weighing approximately 30 pounds that include cheese, milk, canned goods, cereal and rice/pasta. While these are primarily designed as drive-thru events, there will be a separate line for those arriving on foot, by bus or on a bicycle. It is recommended that attendees without vehicles bring containers in which they can carry the food, as it will be boxed and may be difficult to carry.

The distributions are part of the Food Bank’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which provides each participating low-income senior ages 60 and older with free monthly groceries.

In addition to being age 60 or older and providing identification including date of birth, recipients must also meet income guidelines including a limit of $1,396 per month for a household of one or a limit of $1,888 per month for a household of two.

Match offered in Coats for Kids drive

The Junior League of Austin and its long-standing partners Jack Brown Cleaners, KVUE and iHeartRadio recently hosted their 35th annual Coats for Kids.

This year’s Coats for Kids distributed over 30,000 coats from Dec. 4 to 11. The goal for the winter is to distribute 35,000 coats.

Love, Tito’s, the philanthropic heart of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, has issued a challenge match to help raise additional funds needed to purchase additional coats to keep Central Texans warm this winter. By raising $50,000 by Dec. 31, Love, Tito’s will provide a 100% match, providing a total of $100,000 to purchase needed coats.
